Area of the Choshen

The Choshen of the Kohen Gadol has a length of ½ amah (cubit) and a width of ½ amah [Shemos 28:16]. 

Questions:

  1. According to the opinion of the Chazon Ish that a cubit is 22.7 inches. What was the area of the choshen to the nearest 1/10th of an inch? 
  2. Based on the opinion of R Avraham Chiam Na’eh that a cubit is 18.9 inches what was the area of the choshen? (Frank, The Practical Talmud Dictionary)

Answers: 

  1. 22.7” / 2 = 11.35″11.35 x 11.35 = 128.8225 square inches (128.82 square inches)
  2. 18.9” / 2 = 9.45″

          9.45 x 9.45= 89.3025″ (89.30)
