Length of the Courtyard

It can be hard to imagine the size of The Mishkan. Here is a way to help.  According to the Canadian Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the length of the average cow is between 58 inches (1.47 meters) and 64 inches (1.63 meters) According to one opinion an amah (cubit) is approximately 2 feet. The courtyard of The Mishkan (Tabernacle) has a length of 100 amos (cubits).

Question: Assuming the cow is on the small side measuring 60 inches in length, how many cows would fit along the length of the courtyard if lined up tail to nose? 

Answer: 1 amah = 2 feet = 24 inches

60 inches / 24 inches = 2.5

The length of a cow is 2.5 amahs

100 amahs / 2.5 = 40 cows can fit along the length

While a cow would be a normal sight at The Mishkan, it may not be a common sight for students.  A more common reference may be a Chrysler Town and Country minivan which is 191.4 inches long (round this up to 192 inches). 

Question: To get a better idea of the length how many of these would fit along the length of The Mishkan?

Answer: 1 amah = 2 feet = 24 inches

192 inches / 24 inches = 8

The length of a Chrysler Town and Country is 8 amahs

100 amahs / 8 = 12.5 Chrysler Town and Country minivans can fit along the length
