Some animals are actually protected with  the poison found in plants. For example, monarch butterflies eat a plant called milkweed, which contains a poison. The poison doesn’t bother the butterflies, but if a bird or other animal tries to eat them (the butterfly), it will taste the poison right away and learn not to eat another monarch butterfly!
